A Roseland man died Sunday after a two-vehicle crash on Route 29 southbound at 7:04 p.m.

The driver of a Ram 1500, Avis W. Armentrout Jr., 75, died at the scene. A passenger, Martha J. Armentrout, 74, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Virginia State Police is investigating the accident at the intersection with Tye Brook Highway in Nelson County.

A GMC Sierra truck driven by a 16-year-old female from Nelson County was unable to avoid striking the Ram 1500, which had entered the intersection, according to VSP.

After the initial crash, the Ram 1500 struck two road signs and came to rest in the median where it caught fire.

The 16-year-old female suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. She was the only one involved in the crash wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation.
