Nationals listless in 8-2 loss to Philadelphia

The Washington Nationals are officially in mail-it-in mode. The otherwise hapless Philadelphia Phillies pounded Jordan Zimmerman and the Nats into an 8-2 win Friday night at Nationals Park.

With the New York Mets leading the Cincinnati Reds 12-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning at this writing, the Mets will have a magic number of one heading into Saturday’s action assuming that they hold on for the win.

Zimmerman (13-9, 3.68 ERA) was touched up for six runs on six hits in five innings, striking out six, walking two and giving up three home runs.

Jayson Werth hit his 12^th homer for Washington, part of a 2-for-4, two-RBI night.
