Nationals complete sweep of Phillies, win 2-1

washington nationalsGio Gonzalez and three Nationals relievers held Philadelphia to two hits in a 2-1 Washington win on Wednesday.

Gonzalez (10-9, 4.14 ERA, 1.28 WHIP), who gave up a run on two hits in six innings, won his fourth straight decision, and the lefty is 6-1 in 10 starts dating back to July 10.

Jayson Werth (.251/.343/.448, 20 HR, 61 RBI) had a first-inning homer and was 2-for-4 on the night.

Washington (78-55) has a nine-game lead on the New York Mets in the NL East, and has a magic number of 21 to clinch the division title.
