Nationals blast Phils, 12-2, complete sweep

nationals_logoJayson Werth had another multi-homer night, powering the Washington Nationals past Philadelphia, 12-2, on Wednesday night, completing a three-game weekday series sweep.

Werth had two homers, giving him four for the three-game series. Bryce Harper also went deep for the Nats, hitting his 40th homer of the season.

Gio Gonzalez (11-7, 3.83 ERA) struck out 12 and walked two in seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits.

Washington (75-70) inched closer to the New York Mets (83-63), who lost 5-0 to Miami on Wednesday, and now lead the Nats by seven and a half games in the National League East.
