The Albemarle-Charlottesville branch of the NAACP will hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, September 12.
Meetings start at 7 p.m. and are held at the Jefferson School City Center located at 233 4th Street NW, Charlottesville.
The meeting will feature Mario Salas, an attorney from the JustChildren Program of the Legal Aid Justice Center. A new report from the JustChildren Program of the Legal Aid Justice Center shows that last year Virginia schools issued over 126,000 out-of-school suspensions to approximately 70,000 students.
Troublingly, African American students and students with disabilities were suspended much more frequently than students from other groups. The report contains these and other findings, as well as common sense recommendations for lawmakers and policymakers.
The Albemarle-Charlottesville branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ensures the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and eliminates racial hatred and racial discrimination.
