Virginia State Police Trooper R.W. Stauss is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 11 a few hundred feet south of Kerry Lane.

A 1999 Toyota Camry was making a U-Turn onto Route 11 from a private drive when it was struck in the driver’s side by a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The motorcycle was traveling north on Route 11. The impact of the crash caused the motorcycle’s rider to be thrown from the bike.

The motorcyclist, Raymond M. Clark, 71, of Greenville, Va., died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Camry, John M. Burchett Jr., 90, of Staunton, Va., was transported to Augusta Health for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Burchett was charged with reckless driving.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta County Fire and Rescue assisted the Virginia State Police at the scene.
