Miami wins first ACC Tournament Championship with 87-77 victory over North Carolina

A pair of Trey McKinney-Jones three-pointers bookended a late 13-4 Miami run that lifted the Hurricanes to their first ACC Tournament championship with an 87-77 win over North Carolina on Sunday.

North Carolina, the third seed, led 67-66 when McKinney-Jones hit a triple coming out of a media timeout to make it 69-67 at the 6:28 mark.

Julian Gamble made one of two free throws at 5:26 to extend the lead to three, then added to the margin on a dunk on a nice pass from tournament MVP Shane Larkin that made it 72-67 Miami at 4:51.

It was 76-71 after a Shane Larkin layup at 2:23. Reggie Bullock rimmed out a three that would have cut the deficit to two at 2:08, and then McKinney-Jones put the game away 30 seconds later on a three from the right corner on a pass from Larkin.

Miami (27-6) is the first team from outside the state of North Carolina to win the ACC regular-season title and ACC Tournament Championship in league history.
