Mets hold off Nationals, win 3-1

washington nationalsRobert Gsellman and four Mets relievers stifled the Washington Nationals in a 3-1 New York win on Saturday night.

Gsellman (2-1, 2.87 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) held the Nats to a run on six hits in six innings, striking out four and walking three.

Jeurys Familia (45 saves, 2.56 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to record the save for the Mets (70-66).

Tanner Roark (14-8, 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) took the loss for Washington (79-56), giving up two runs on four hits in five innings of work.

Roark needed 96 pitches to get through five, walking four batters and striking out three.

Washington still has a nine and a half game lead on the Mets in the NL East.
