On December 5, 22 East Rockingham Senior Center members, volunteers and staff took the opportunity to drive just a few blocks from our Center to Elkton’s Town Hall where the Virginia is for Lovers’ tourism display is situated.
The display, orchestrated by Heidi Findlay, Executive Director of the Elkton Welcome Center, is a marketing resource established by the Virginia Department of Tourism to promote the state’s slogan, “Virginia is for Lovers.” The display arrived in Elkton on November 30 and will be at this location for a total of 10 days. Each plexiglass letter is approximately six feet in height and is stabilized on an aluminum base.
While there is a fee to ‘host’ the LOVE letters, a recent Valley Banner newspaper article cited the fact that individual donors contributed. The display has generated many positive comments and lots of photos have been taken of townspeople next to the display.
There was much excitement from members as Santa hats were donned and they lined next to the LOVE letters. Merry Christmas with LOVE from the ERSC!
