Mecklenburg County: One dead, one seriously injured in crash on Route 58

One man has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Feb. 9 in Mecklenburg County, according to Virginia State Police.

Walter G. Thompson, 80, of South Hill, suffered serious injuries in the crash and died on Feb. 13.

The other driver, N’Finitee J. Hicks, 24, of South Hill, also suffered serious injuries. No update has been provided on injuries sustained by Hicks.

The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred on Feb. 9 at 6:21 p.m. at the intersection of Route 58 and Theater Road.

Hicks was heading westbound on Route 58 when a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Thompson drove into the intersection from Theater Road. Hicks was unable to avoid Thompson’s vehicle, according to VSP.

Both Hicks and Thompson were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation.
