McEachin on Trump Administration’s proposal to roll back cleaner cars standards

Chris Graham

Donald McEachinCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) comments following the Trump Administration’s announcement of their intent to roll back the current fuel economy and emissions standards for passenger cars and light trucks.

“The Trump Administration must reconsider these deleterious and dangerous actions. Tailpipe pollution is a public health threat and one of the biggest contributors of carbon dioxide to our atmosphere, which drives climate change and threatens our future sharing this one Earth.

“The Trump Administration’s proposal not only contributes to pollution but, as gas prices rise, families will pay more at the pump. That is why I am sending a letter with my colleagues in the Congressional Tri-Caucuses seeking to prevent this rollback. We are deeply concerned that these new standards will result in an increase of air pollution, climate change impacts, and pain at the pump that will disproportionately affect low-income communities and communities of color who can least afford gas price hikes, and who are more likely to live near highways and other high traffic areas.”
