Marva Maid Press Statement

newspaperNothing is more important to us than delivering a safe and nutritious product to our customers. Marva Maid Dairy takes all customer complaints seriously, and is committed to investigating and resolving customer complaints as quickly as possible.

We have been actively working and cooperating with the Virginia Department of Health (“VDH”) to investigate customer complaints concerning ½-pint paperboard packages of Marva Maid brand milk with code dates of May 30 – June 10.

Our investigation determined that there was a temporary issue with premature spoilage associated with that specific product, and we acted immediately to correct it. All of the current complaints related to spoilage can be traced back to this temporary issue, which has now been resolved.

As a precautionary measure, Marva Maid Dairy had previously voluntarily withdrawn from the marketplace ½-pint paperboard packages of Marva Maid brand milk with code dates of May 30 – June 2. We have now extended this timeframe to include ½-pint paperboard packages of Marva Maid brand milk with code dates of May 30 – June 10 as an additional measure of safety and with the support of VDH.

We want our customers to know that, following the customer complaints that we received, VDH has reviewed our processes and procedures at our Newport News, Va. plant, and pulled product samples for quality assurance testing. Those sample results show that Marva Maid milk is in compliance with state regulatory standards. Furthermore, VDH’s review confirms that the premature spoilage issue was a temporary matter.

Customers that have ½-pint paperboard packages of Marva Maid brand milk with code dates of May 30 – June 10 should not drink the milk. Instead, they are encouraged to call our customer service line, 1-800-768-6243 extension 445, to request replacement of that product or a credit to their account.

It is important to note that this voluntary withdrawal only applies to ½-pint paperboard packages of Marva Maid brand milk with code dates of May 30 – June 10. This product is only sold for institutional use and is not available at any retail outlet.

Marva Maid is committed to conducting all of its operations in full compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.

We continue to work in full cooperation with VDH to ensure that we provide the safest, freshest and highest quality milk possible to our customers.
