marietta mccartyAward-winning author and philosopher Marietta McCarty has paired up with two local establishments to host her signature Meet with Marietta events in March and April. Both pair philosophy and food — two central elements in her latest book, The Philosopher’s Table.

March 22 | Luncheon and Book Signing
Waynesboro, Va.

Stone Soup Books in Waynesboro will host an author’s luncheon with Marietta on March 22 starting at noon. The charming atmosphere of this cafe/bookshop provides the perfect backdrop for lunch, laughter, and philosophizing. Marietta will join diners as she rotates among three tables circling from noon to 1:30 p.m. Chef Laura will prepare specialities to complement Burmese cuisine from Vegetable Curry to Mango Tart with Coconut Crust. Burma is the setting for the March chapter in The Philosopher’s Tabletitled “Persistence and Grace.” Reservations are required.

A book signing will follow the luncheon at 1:30 p.m. for approximately one hour. In addition toThe Philosopher’s Table, Marietta’s first two books, Little Big Minds: Sharing Philosophy with Kids (a New York Times Extended List bestseller) and How Philosophy can Save Your Life: 10 Ideas That Matter Most (winner of a Nautilus Book Award) will be available for sale.

Community and the Melting Pot

Bring a bowl, spoon, and cup to Over the Moon Bookstore and Artisan Gallery as owner Anne DeVault ladles her homemade soup and warm beverages for all comers, welcoming you for a discussion of “Community and the Melting Pot,” April’s topic in The Philosopher’s Table. The event gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Marietta’s talk and interactive discussion starts at 7.

Her three books will be available for sale and signing. Hot soup pairs well with good conversation. As with the spirit of the chapter, proceeds from the admission fee will be donated to the Food Bank. Limited seating. Reservations are required.
