March 2-6 marks the 10th annual Telework Week in Virginia

March 2-6 has been designated Telework Week in Virginia, a tradition that began 10 years ago.

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and commuter assistance agencies across Virginia are encouraging employers to explore the benefits of teleworking by allowing eligible employees to telework at least one day that week.

“DRPT is proud to sponsor Telework Week in Virginia for the 10th consecutive year. Telework is a business-friendly strategy that also helps manage traffic congestion by removing vehicles from Virginia’s roads,” DRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell said. “It’s a win-win for employees, businesses, and Virginia.”

By implementing a telework program, businesses in Virginia can take advantage of the many benefits of telework. Allowing employees to work from home one day a week can improve employee productivity, increase employee retention, and improve employee recruitment and work-life balance.

Through a partnership between DRPT and VDOT, Northern Virginia businesses with employees traveling on the I-66 corridor can receive up to $10,000 in financial incentives and free consulting from DRPT’s telework experts to develop telework policies, identify and assess positions best suited for telework, train managers how to manage teleworkers, train employees to be good teleworkers, and assess technology and communications needs.
