Mailbag: Why is UVA Athletics limiting who can sit on The Hill at Scott Stadium?

Was just wondering what your thoughts were in regard to who has access to The Hill at the UVA Football games.  I’m a “former” (20+ yrs) season ticket holder, and prior to that, one of many who sat on The Hill with middle & high school friends. Who in their right mind would think this is a good idea?

I can actually see the rationale behind putting some order to the access there.

Me personally, as I wrote in my article on this yesterday, I hope that they address how crazy it usually is there. It’s been a good while since I’ve watched a game from there, but it was utter lawlessness back in the day.

It seems to me, looking at the list of people who are allowed in, that the only restriction is on people with single-game tickets. They’re clearly trying to keep fans of the other side (JMU and Virginia Tech last year) from being able to amass there and rush the field after a win.

I also didn’t see media on the list of those being allowed to access the area. I noted this in a joking manner in my column on the changes.

I don’t want to be down there. I prefer not having kids pass out in piles of their own vomit at my feet when I’m trying to watch a football game.

To me, our bigger problem is the 20,000-plus empty seats for home games.
