Lynchburg District Traffic AlertL Aug. 29-Sept. 2

road work transportationHighway work in the Lynchburg District requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting.  Traffic may be restricted.  Items in italics contain new/updated information. For     up-to-date information, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.  

Amherst County:  

Route 29 Bypass @ Route 604 –9/7, delays possible during bridge inspection.

Route 130 over Pedlar River– Bridge work; road closed. Detour to new-construction & existing Rt. 635.  Message boards, signs and barriers in use. Est. comp. 11/27/17.

Route 501/130 (Snowden, Hunting Club Rd-existing James River Bridge) –Route 130 bet. Route 501/130 intersection east to Bedford Power Plant restricted to one lane using traffic control devices, signs and signal for roadway construction and bridge approaches. Completion 4/21/17.   

Various routes – Plant Mix- Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Appomattox County:  

Various routes – Surface treatment will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Buckingham County:    

Route 20 over Slate River – Speed reduced during bridge replacement. Est.  comp. – 12/2017.

Route 622 over Slate River – Bridge inspection on 10/24 may result in delays. Rain date 01/25.

Route 631 (Dillwyn AHQ) – Crews will boom ax. Caution urged.

Route 671 over Slate River – Bridge inspection on 10/24 may result in delays. Rain date 10/25.

Route 720 – Crews will work Rural Rustic project.

Route 769 (Andersonville AHQ) – Crews will perform ditching operations and  cut brush at various locations.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer concerns.

 

Campbell County:  

Route 460 East to Route 656 – Construction of turn lane may result in delays. Lane closures will be in place. Estimated completion  – November 29, 2016.

Route 677 over Opossum Creek –Superstructure replacement Sept. 6-Dec. 13; detour in use.

Route 711 (Rt. 682-626) over Norfolk Southern Rail – Road closed from 7:15 am to 3:45 pm on Sept. 6 & 7, weather permitting for testing. Detour via 682 to 626.

 

Charlotte County:   

Route 40 over Louse Creek – Be alert to equipment entering/exiting road during bridge project.

Various routes– Surface treatment will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

Craftons Gate AHQ – Crews will boom ax and install mainline and driveway pipe.

Phenix AHQ – Crews will make shoulder repairs, and trim trees.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer requests.

 

Cumberland County:  

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer requests.

 

Halifax County:  

Route 501 @ Rt. 40 and 632 – Construction of right turn lanes. Est. comp. May 2017.

Route 613 over Branch of Banister River (360-360)– Closed for approximately 14 weeks beginning July 11 for structure replacement. Detour will use Route 360.

Route 716 over Banister River – Road closed to construct bridge & approaches. Detour in place.

Various –Crews will make surface repairs, mow and respond to customer requests.

 

Lynchburg:

Greenview Drive widening– Utility relocation may result in temporary delays. Traffic will be maintained along Greenview Dr & Airport Rd during construction. Short closures of each leg of Leesville Rd with temp. detours will take place.

Route 29/460 Corridor eastbound/westbound from Concord Turnpike to Candlers Mtn Rd:  Speed reduced to 45 mph for construction throughout the corridor.

Route 29/460 (501-29)– Construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Weather permitting, lane closures will be in place from 9 pm, Friday to 6 am, Sunday, excluding holiday weekends until further notice. Use caution. Est. comp. 11/16/17

Route 29/460 (Odd Fellows Rd Int. and Odd Fellows Rd.)– Be alert to construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Temp. lane closures on 460 & Odd Fellows likely. Odd Fellows & Mayflower may be closed during roundabout construction. Use caution. Est. comp. 8/3/18

Route 460, area of LU campus – LU/English Const. bridge project. Temporary barriers to be set.

Nelson County:  

Route 56 over Tye River – Bridge inspection on 9/12 may result in delays.

Route 56 (Rockbridge line to Rt 646)) – Paving starts Aug. 28. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic.

Route 623 over Rockfish River – Bridge inspection on 9/12 may result in delays. Rain date 9/13.

Route 632 over Cove Creek – Bridge inspection on 11/9 may result in delays. Rain date 11/28.

Route 635 over Branch Perry Creek (633-634) –Road will be closed 9/12-10/14 for pipe replacement. Detour using 635, 692, 29, 6, 151 and back to 635.

Route 654 over Rucker’s Run – Bridge inspection on 11/9 may result in delays. Rain date 11/28.

Route 672 (673-724) – Road closed due to flooding damage.  Est. reopening – late Nov.  

Various routes – Plant mix work will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Pittsylvania County:  

Route 29 S over Norfolk-Southern RR –Bridge replacement. Rt. 29/803 connection temp. relocated. Southbound traffic detoured to northbound lane. Est. comp. 6/20/17.

Route 29 @ 29 Bus ramp, north – GretnaSept. 1, ramps closed overnight for milling & paving.

Route 29 North ramps to Rt 41Aug. 30 & 31, ramps closed overnight for milling and paving.

Route58 & ramps (58 to 29 North)– Aug. 28/ 29, ramps closed overnight for milling and paving.

Route 685 (40-670)- Lanes closed for bridge work. Estimated completion Sept. 23, 2016.

Route 755, Gretna area – Crews will work on Rural Rustic project.

Route 792 (Rt 671 – 665) over Stinking Creek – Closed 8/15-9/9 for culvert replacement. Detour via 671, 670 and 665.

Route 792 (Rt 671 – 665) over W.F. Stinking Creek – Closed 9/12-10/7 for culvert replacement. Detour via 671, 670 and 665.

Route 834 (Rt 703-837) over Pudding Creek – Closed 8/8-9/30 for superstructure replacement. Detour via 703, 838 and 718. Also, crews will cut and remove rock in curve.

Route 968 (Rt. 726 – 970) over Sandy Creek – Closed 5/23-9/30 for structure replacement. Detour via 726, 58 and 970, back to 968.

Brosville AHQ – Crews will ditch. 

Gretna and Mt. Airy AHQ – Crews will boom ax.

Gretna and Rondo AHQ – Crews will clean debris. 

Kentuck AHQ – Crews will make shoulder repairs.

Mt. Airy AHQ – Crews will make pipe repairs.

Various –Crews will work surfaces, boom ax, mow and respond to customers. Plant mix work continues.

 

Prince Edward County:  

Route 619 over Saylers Creek – Crews will construct bridge and approaches. Comp.  11/2016. Road closed; detour in place.

Route 628 – Crews will work Rural Rustic project.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, mow and respond to customer requests.

 

District-wide activities: 

Guardrail maintenance – Crews will do guardrail maintenance. 

Pavement markings –Pavement markings will be eradicated/restored at various locations Caution is urged.
