Lynchburg police officers used pepper spray to disperse a crowd that they allege became disorderly after shots were fired downtown Sunday morning.

According to police, multiple gunshots were heard in the 1300 block of Main Street. Officers responded and initiated a brief foot pursuit of two suspects. No firearm was recovered, however, and both suspects were released.

The large crowd became “increasing disorderly,” police allege, as the shooting incident unfolded, and to ensure public safety and restore order, officers deployed OC spray.

If you witnessed the shooting incident or have any information pertinent to this incident, you are asked to contact Lieutenant Tucker at (434) 942-8210 or call Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
