Loudoun County: Two charged in fatal accident on Route 267 exit ramp

A Maryland man is dead after the Silverado truck he was a passenger in struck a tractor trailer in Loudoun County on Thursday.

Julio A. Portillo Pena, 41, of Gaithersburg, Md., died at the scene.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 7:49 a.m. on the off ramp from Route 267 east to Route 28 southbound.

The truck was exiting Route 267 when it went off the right side of the exit ramp and rear-ended a tractor trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder.

A second passenger in the Silverado, Almir Sanchez Valdes, 43, also of Gaithersburg, Md., suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, Exar A. Sanchez, 22, suffered minor injuries.

Sanchez has been charged with failure to maintain proper control. He was wearing a seatbelt; his two passengers were not, according to VSP.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Gennadiyovych N. Sergiy, 59, of Palm Coast, Fla., was not injured.  Sergiy has been charged with improper stopping on a highway.

The crash remains under investigation.
