Siena forced 19 Longwood turnovers and got 23 points from Brendan Coyle in a 70-63 win over Longwood on Friday at the Capital Thanksgiving Classic.
Redd Thompson Jr. and Jacoi Hutchinson each had 15 points for Longwood (3-4), which trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, before a late surge that got the game into single digits in the final minutes.
“We are not playing team basketball right now,” first-year Longwood head coach Ronnie Thomas said. “We have to get back to sharing the basketball and playing for each other.”
To that point: the Lancers had just 11 assists on its 22 made baskets.
Siena (5-2) shot 51.0 percent from the floor and had 17 assists on its 25 made baskets.
The big issue was the TOs – which led to 27 Siena points.
Longwood is back in action against Maine (0-7) on Saturday for the second day of the Capital Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by American University, with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
American (4-3) defeated Maine, 74-61, in the other game at the event on Friday.
