liberty basketballAfter Liberty’s historic win this past week over UCLA, Caleb Homesley was named the ASUN Player of the Week and Darius McGhee was named the ASUN Newcomer of the Week. This is the first time Liberty has taken home both honors in the same week.

Homesley is the first Liberty player to earn ASUN Player of the Week honor after an impressive 21-point performance at UCLA. Homesley would make a career-high nine made field goals as the Flames picked up their first win over a Pac-12 opponent. For the game, Homesley shot 52.9 percent from the field including a trio of makes from three-point range. The redshirt junior from Indian Trails, N.C. filled the stat sheet against the Bruins, grabbing five rebounds, recording two steals and posting an assist. Homesley was exceptional in the month of December averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

McGhee has now been named ASUN Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season and remains the only player in the conference to receive the honor multiple times. The freshman from Roxboro, N.C. led Liberty’s bench in the win over UCLA scoring 11 points, shooting 57.1 percent from the field. McGhee shot 50 percent from three-point range, converting 3-6 from beyond the arc. This was the eighth time this season McGhee has made three or more three-pointers in a game this season. McGhee ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game and ranks No. 59 in the country with 38 three-pointers made this season.

The Flames will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 5, as they travel for their first-ever ASUN game against Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off against the Eagles is set for 7 p.m. and can been seen on ESPN+.
