Letter: Voter supports Donald Smith for Augusta County sheriff

AFP

letter-to-the-editor3If you haven’t met Donald Smith I hope you take the time out to do so. I’m just as guilty as most; I talk about voting for sheriff yet it’s something I’ve never done.

The sheriff for the county we are living in is so important. The first time I met Donald was at the hospital where his grandma was my patient. I always admired young men who took time to help care for their elderly family members. It’s not something I see often in my nursing career. So those men always stood out to me.

The next time Deputy Donald Smith crossed my path would be the worst day of my life. My pawpaw was shot. Donald was one of the deputies at the scene. He made things more bearable. I feel like most deputies see an 80 year old man in my Pawpaw’s condition would have just wrote him off. Maybe I’m wrong to feel this way, but taking care of geriatrics most of my life I’ve see how many are treated. I believe with all my heart if Donald Smith would not have been there that day, I would not have had the chance to tell my Pawpaw good-bye. Donald fought hard to get a place for Pegasus to land. He helped comfort my mom. He held my pawpaw. He did all this with ease. He is and always will be my hero. What a deputy!

Yes, I’m partial to Donald not only because of my experiences with him, but because of my nursing experiences as well. The best RN’s were once a nursing assistant because they had that hands on experience.  The best Sheriff begins as Deputies. That experience is much needed. Deputy Donald Smith has that experience! Get to know him and vote Donald Smith for Sheriff November 3rd.
