Letter: Support Derek Almarode for Augusta County sheriff

letter-to-the-editor3We have four candidates vying for the office of sheriff of Augusta County and all have some good qualities.  I do not attempt to force my opinion on others, but I feel strongly about this race.  I have recently retired from a 20-year career with Augusta County Fire-Rescue, and I have served 37 years (and counting) in volunteer emergency services, and I know when people make a difference.

Derek Almarode makes a difference.  He is passionate about law enforcement, but still compassionate with victims and their families.

He has the education, training, experience, demeanor, plan and vision to lead the department forward.  He has worked in almost every division in the department-he knows what it takes to do the job.

Derek Almarode has the strongest moral and ethical values of any person I know, and I know those values and his strong personal faith will serve as the foundation for every decision.

Corporal Almarode is committed to the safety and well-being of every Augusta County citizen and that will serve as his highest priority.  He has well-made plans to immediately increase deputies “on the street”.  He also has plans to increase the department’s visibility and interaction in our communities’.

I encourage all to go to the forums and listen to the candidates answers.  Derek Almarode has a vision for the future and immediate plans to move the department forward.

Derek Almarode is a bright star-ready to lead.

Derek is a proud American, a proud son of Augusta County, a Christian and a leader in his church, active in his community, and a true gentleman.

I met Derek when I had a personal law enforcement emergency and he responded to the call.  I trust him with my life and am proud to call him a friend.
