Lee County: 18-year-old cyclist struck by truck, killed on Route 58A

An 18-year-old died after their bicycle was struck by a truck on Route 58A on Friday in Lee County.

The fatal crash occurred at 1:45 p.m. one mile west of Route 982, according to Virginia State Police.

The bicycle, operated by Skylar S. McMahan, 18, of Big Stone Gap, was heading westbound when it was rear-ended by the driver of a 2017 Ram 1500 truck.

McMahan died at the scene.

The driver of the Ram, Dustin R. Holman, 32, of Wise, was charged with reckless driving.  Holman was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
