JMU women win at ODU, 68-56

jmu logoSenior guard Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) scored 22 points, 18 of them in the second half, to lead JMU (16-8, 10-2) to a 68-56 win at Old Dominion (16-8, 7-5) in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Tuesday evening at the Constant Convocation Center.

The Dukes remained in second place in the CAA, just ahead of Drexel (9-2), who was idle Tuesday night.

Hislop scored 12 points in a 14-5 run that gave the Dukes an insurmountable 63-51 lead with 2:28 remaining.

JMU out-rebounded the Monarchs 54-38, with sophomore forward Toia Giggetts (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) snaring a career-high 17 along with 10 points.  The Dukes outscored ODU 34-26 in the paint and scored 20 points off turnovers.

JMU freshman guard Precious Hall (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay) scored 15 points and had a game-high four steals, and redshirt freshman guard Jazmon Gwathmey (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) added nine points and seven rebounds.  Junior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
