JMU women roll over Georgia State

Sophomore guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) scored a career-high 22 points to lead James Madison to a 76-45 win over Georgia State in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Thursday night at the JMU Convocation Center.

The Dukes improved to 15-4 overall with their fourth straight win.  JMU has a 6-2 record in league play.

Georgia State dropped to 6-13 overall and remained winless in CAA play with an 0-8 league record.  It was the seventh straight loss for the Panthers.

JMU, which never trailed, led by 23 points, 43-20, at intermission.  The Dukes held an opponent to under 50 points for the seventh time this season.

Kirby Burkholder scored 15 of her points in the opening half.  For the game she hit a career-high six 3-pointers on just eight attempts and was 8-for-10 from the field overall.  She also led the Dukes with eight rebounds.

Junior guard Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) added 16 points and a game-high six assists for the Dukes.

Georgia State was led by redshirt freshman center Alana Beroth (Pfafftown, N.C.Reagan) with 11 points and 11 rebounds and redshirt senior forward Chan Harris (Macon, Ga./Northeast) with 11 points.
