Redshirt junior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) tied her career high with five goals as she helped pace No. 13 James Madison to a 15-9 women’s lacrosse win at Fairfield Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes improved to 3-1, while the Stags suffered their first loss in three games this season.
JMU scored the game’s first five goals and never trailed, although Fairfield got within two goals on two occasions, the last at 10-8 with 14:51 remaining.
Dukes’ sophomore Amy Roguski (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) scored her team’s first two goals, netting the first just 22 seconds into the match and converted a free-position attempt 2:19 into the game.
In addition to Ancarrow and Roguski, multiple-goal scorers for the Dukes included senior Ashley Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) with three and seniors Ariel Lane (Vero Beach , Fla./Vero Beach) and Monica Zabel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) with two apiece.
Zabel contributed a game-high three assists and increased her career total to 79. That moved her into third place on the Dukes’ all-time list as she passed Kelly Berger (’08), who had 78 assists.
Zabel also picked up five ground balls and Ancarrow had three ground balls. Ancarrow also controlled five draws, and Zabel had three draw controls.
Fairfield was led by Addie Reilly and Melanie Raso, each with three goals.
JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Menghetti (Media, Pa./Penncrest) finished with five saves, and Fairfield goalie Katie Keenan had six stops.
JMU continues its Northeastern road trip with a March 6 game at Harvard.
