Multiple fatalities have been reported in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound this afternoon in Prince George County.

Virginia State Police is on the scene of the crash just south of exit 45. The accident involved a tractor trailer and a Volkswagen Atlas with five occupants.

Details are scarce but the preliminary investigation indicates the Volkswagen ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned in the crash.

Two occupants of the Volkswagen died at the scene. One person was flown by Med-Flight with life-threatening injuries. Two others were transported by ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries.

No names have been released at this time as troopers work to identify the next of kin.

The tractor trailer driver was uninjured.

Virginia State Police are working with the Virginia Department of Transportation to establish a detour.

The crash remains under investigation.
