Interstate 64 lane closures at Exit 91 in Augusta County Sept. 1-2

The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled an overnight closure of the Interstate 64 exit 91 westbound on-ramp from Route 285 in Augusta County. This closure is for milling and paving between 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, and 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 2. The closure is part of the reconstruction of exit 91 at Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) near Fishersville.

Motorists who need to access westbound I-64 will detour north on Route 285, west on Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and south on Interstate 81 back to I-64.

All work is weather permitting.

When contractors finish the Route 285 project, the road will have four lanes for just over one mile, between Route 636/640 and Route 935 (Expo Road). A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting of Lorton, Va., a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
