Idle UVA takes over first in ACC Coastal

UVaHelmet_1Didn’t expect much news on the UVA football front with the ‘Hoos off this week, but there was news of a sort: Virginia now sits atop the ACC Coastal Division standings by virtue of Duke’s 31-25 win at Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon.

The result leaves UVA (4-2, 2-0 ACC) as the only unbeaten team in the suddenly wide-open Coastal Division. Georgia Tech (5-1, 2-1 ACC), the only nationally ranked team in the division coming into the weekend, is one of four teams with one loss in ACC play, along with defending Coastal champ Duke (5-1, 1-1 ACC), Virginia Tech (4-2, 1-1 ACC) and Pitt (3-3, 1-1 ACC).

Preseason ACC Coastal favorite Miami (4-3, 1-2 ACC) and preseason Top 25 North Carolina (2-4, 0-2 ACC) are two games back in the division.

Virginia has a chance to gain separation from its division rivals in a pivotal game next Saturday at Duke.

Augusta Free Press will be in the press box at Wallace Wade Stadium with live coverage of the game. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.
