abortion virginia general assemblyThe House of Delegates Courts of Justice – Constitutional Law Subcommittee passed a bill Wednesday that would prohibit abortion after 20 weeks with very little exceptions.

HB963, patroned by Delegate Dave LaRock, passed on a party-line vote.

“If a woman is 20 weeks into her pregnancy, something catastrophic has happened that would cause her to seek an abortion. At that juncture, government has no place in the extremely painful decision made by a woman, her family, and her doctor,” said Delegate Jennifer McClellan (71st – Richmond). “Support of HB 963 shows how little trust House Republicans place in a woman’s ability to make the best decision for her family.”
