Here we go again: Media love for UVA basketball

uva-basketball newFrom the dumb reporter notebook: A Carolina beat writer asked UNC coach Roy Williams if teams have figured out UVA, which has lost two of three after starting the season 28-1.

Ol’ Roy doesn’t suffer fools.

“No.  Beating Louisville’s not easy.  They lost on the last-second play when (Mangok) Mathiang, I think I pronounced his name properly, knocked in a jumpshot, which is not what they would focus on doing. (Malcolm) Brogdon made a huge shot from the corner.  This league is pretty doggone good.
We’re not chopped liver, so losing to Louisville at Louisville, and losing in the ACC Tournament in the semifinals, doesn’t mean you’ve been bad,” Williams said.

Then Williams broke out some history.

“I want these guys to change it, but my teams have taken me to seven Final Fours.  One time we won the conference tournament, and we were pretty doggone good, and we won two national championships when we did not win the conference tournament,” Williams said.

Earlier in the presser, Williams agreed with another reporter who asked him if he thought his team’s performance in defeating Virginia was its best of the 2014-2015 season.

“There is a reason they were 29‑2, and they’re really a good basketball team,” Williams said. “We’re very fortunate, and I hope they get everybody healthy, because they have a very sincere run in them if they’re healthy to win the whole blessed thing.”

Kevin Federline has a spokesperson: And more nonsense news nuggets

A headline in my email box today reminded me of what’s wrong with the American news media. “Kevin Federline,” the headline screamed at me, “Breaks Silence on Ex-Wife Britney Spears Voluntarily Checking Into Rehab.” Stop the presses, indeed.
