Health Care Film Promoted at Health Forum

Contributors

vpasheader0311The film “Escape Fire – The Fight to Rescue American Health Care” was shown as part of the Augusta Community Health Forum program on July 31.

The film documents areas of health care that are broken such as the enormous difference in reimbursement for patient education vs surgical procedures and calls the current system a “profitable disease care system.” The film advocates for a whole new health care system that would have more “care” in it and would support the good along with attacking the bad.

One statistic from the film that is particularly relevant to Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) is that “70% of healthcare costs are driven by behavior.” There are at least 14 workshops planned to begin in this fall throughout the VPAS service area where participants can learn tools and behaviors to actively and effectively manage their health conditions and reduce hospital and doctor visits.

The workshop schedule and an option to register for workshops is available online at http://www.valleycdsme.com, and a preview of the movie is online at www.escapefiremovie.com.
