bridgewater collegeHarvest of Empire, directed by Peter Getzels and Eduardo López and based on the book of the same title by award-winning journalist Juan González, will be shown at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

The feature-length documentary examines the author’s assertion that the United States’ lengthy history with Latin America and today’s immigration crisis are connected.

The film features present-day immigrant stories, as well as interviews with Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, ACLU executive director Anthony Romero, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Junot Díaz, Mexican historian Lorenzo Meyer, journalists Maria Hinojosa and Geraldo Rivera, Grammy award-winning singer Luis Enrique and poet Martin Espada.

The documentary, sponsored by Bridgewater’s Center for Diversity Education and Advocacy, is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,800 undergraduate students.
