Harrisonburg Tourism & Visitor Services has partnered with the community to organize the Harrisonburg International CommUNITY Celebration as an extension of the annual Harrisonburg International Festival.
This 14-day celebration highlights special events, activities, performances and promotions that honor the diverse cultures and backgrounds that make up the local community. The celebration aims to bring local, regional and national recognition and awareness to the rich cultural diversity of people and businesses in the area.
This year, the celebration will kick off on Sept. 21st with James Madison University’s I-Week. Their theme this year is “Food & Food for Thought: Feed Your Global I.Q.” The opening festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. onMonday, September 21, with an international bazaar. Enjoy various street vendors, a sampling of food, and the cultural parade.
Saturday, Sept. 26, will mark the 18th annual Harrisonburg International Festival, which will bring a colorful array of performing, visual and culinary arts from around the world to Hillandale Park. Stop by Harrisonburg Tourism tent and write “LOVE” in your native language. As in previous years, this festival is free and family-friendly.
Throughout the 14-day Harrisonburg International CommUNITY Celebration, visitors and locals are encouraged to participant in the activities taking place as part of the Harrisonburg International CommUNITY Celebration. Some include international beer and wine tastings at Downtown Wine & Gourmet, a concert featuring JMU musicians, world cup soccer tournament, the Latino Film Festival at Court Square Theater, Explore More Discovery Museum’s One World Exhibit, and more.
