A Hanover County attempted-murder suspect was arrested on Saturday in Harrisonburg.

Kayshawn Smith, 22, of Goochland, is wanted in Hanover County on several charges, including attempted murder.

Harrisonburg Police learned on Saturday that a vehicle associated with Smith was parked in the parking lot of a housing complex parking lot.

Police secured a perimeter around the area, and a SWAT team was then deployed.

A short time later, officers observed Smith attempting to leave the area by vehicle. The SWAT team then moved in and safely took him into custody without incident.

“This arrest demonstrates the dedication and professionalism of our officers, who worked swiftly to ensure the safety of our community while removing a dangerous individual from our city,” Deputy Chief Todd Miller said. “We are proud of the teamwork and coordination displayed by our patrol officers, SWAT team and our partner agencies in executing this operation successfully.”
