Halifax County: Woman dead in fatal crash at intersection of Route 501, Stage Coach Road

There was on fatality in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday at the intersection of Route 501 and Stage Coach Road in Halifax County.

Brenda B. Pannell, 71, of Brookneal, died at the scene.

The accident occurred at 2:02 p.m. when a Dodge Ram heading southbound on Route 501 was unable to avoid a Chrysler 300, driven by Pannell, which was travelling eastbound on Stage Coach Road.

There are stop signs located at the intersection on Stage Coach Road but not on Route 501.

The driver of the Ram, Michael W. Ferrell, 55, of Vernon Hill, suffered minor injuries.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
