The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has announced $250,000 in grants to two local drug prevention coalitions in the Ninth District through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program.
Substance Abuse Taskforce in Rural Appalachia, Inc. (SATIRA) of Tazewell, Virginia and Piedmont Regional Community Services of Rocky Mount, Virginia, which also has facilities in the Ninth District, have each been awarded $125,000 through the DFC program.
Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement following the announcement:
“Today’s announcement means that communities of Southwest Virginia will be able to mobilize individuals and organizations in the fight against substance use among youth. As the opioid crisis sweeps across the country, the DFC program supports local solutions for local problems. The grants will provide community coalitions funding to prevent youth substance use, including prescription drugs. These new and continuing grants support the good work of SATIRA and Piedmont Regional Community Services to bring together Ninth District communities in support of local youth drug use prevention efforts.”
Directed by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the DFC Program provides grants to community coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use.
The DFC Program provides grants of up to $625,000 over five years to community coalitions that facilitate youth and adult participation at the community level in local youth drug use prevention efforts.
