Here we go again: John Cena wins WWE title at MITB

Chris Graham

john cenaYou knew it would end that way – with John Cena coming down the ladder with the WWE and World Heavyweight titles at the end of Money in the Bank.

For lots of reasons, really. The talk on the dirt sheets has been that WWE wanted a John Cena-Brock Lesnar main event at SummerSlam, at least after it became apparent that Daniel Bryan wasn’t going to be back in time for the big wrestling show of the summer. You could have had another person win the belts at Money in the Bank and then drop them to Cena between now and then, but that would needlessly complicate things.

Now we can start the build to Cena-Lesnar, which like Cena-Rock is a much, much better match on paper than it ever can possibly be in reality.

Nothing else promising came out of MITB that feels anything at all newsworthy. Seth Rollins won the Money in the Bank ladder match and title shot that comes with it, aided by Kane, in a finish that was about as predictable as the Cena win in the in main event. The Usos successfully defended the tag titles against the Wyatt Family, again predictably. At some point soon, WWE might want to give some sort of hardware to someone from the Wyatts, to validate the hottest faction in the company.

The two ladder matches were great up until the finishes: plenty of big bumps, false finishes and the rest. The show was entertaining, if you are already a WWE Network subscriber, and thus had already been billed the $9.99. I can’t imagine that anybody who would have plunked down the money for the pay-per-view would have felt like they even got that much value from the show, which didn’t even have the booking quality of your average Raw or Smackdown.

Marriage equality is the law of the land, sure, but, take nothing for granted

It’s already the settled law of the land, marriage equality, but Virginia still has embedded in its state constitution, thanks to the politics of 2006, a provision narrowly defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.
