A 24-year-old man has died after a single-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Gloucester County.

Tyler M. Simmons, of Hayes, was partially ejected in the Oct. 23 crash and suffered serious injuries. Simmons was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Virginia State Police report Simmons’ Chevrolet Blazer was heading northbound, north of the intersection with T.C. Walker Road, when he ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree in the median at approximately 3:45 a.m. The vehicle then caught fire.

Simmons was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
