wlogo2A two-out RBI single by Julius Gaines broke a 10th inning tie and lifted Waynesboro to a 6-5 win over Staunton on Friday.

Kevin Fagan (freshman, Stetson) stole second with two out to get into scoring position. Gaines then hit a 3-1 pitch from Chris Huffman back up the middle for a base hit that plated Fagan with the go-ahead run.

David Spinosa (sophomore, Columbia) pitched a scoreless 10th to close out the game. Spinosa picked up the win in relief after getting the last out of the ninth to send the game to extras in advance of the RBI single by Gaines (sophomore, Florida International).

Kyle Allen (sophomore, Butler) had a nice outing in his second start of the season for Waynesboro, giving up two runs on two hits in five innings.

Patrick Mazeika (freshman, Stetson) hit his first home run of the season in the seventh inning to tie the game. Mazeika was 3-for-3 to improve his batting average on the season to .403.

Ben Boykin (junior, College of Charleston) and Brian Beard (freshman, Old Dominion) each had two hits for Waynesboro, which improves to 19-20 on the season.

The Generals host Covington for a doubleheader on Saturday at Linco Park. The first game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
