Gas price update: Prices at the pump up 22.2 percent since start of Iran war

We were still paying under $3 a gallon for gas back when Donald Trump launched missiles at Iran on Feb. 28, less than two weeks ago.

The national average is now at $3.59 a gallon, up 65 cents a gallon – 22.2 percent – in the past 12 days.

This is the latest update from GasBuddy, which has the average for a gallon of diesel at $4.81 a gallon today, up $1.06 per gallon – 28.3 percent – since the start of the undeclared war.

The only bit of good news here: oil was trading as high as $116.13 per barrel back on Monday, but it’s now back below $90 a barrel, still up 35.3 percent since its pre-undeclared war price.

That’s your upward pressure on prices.

This is also a time of year in the U.S. where prices naturally rise anyway, as distributors switch to the summer grade of fuel.
