Chris Graham

odu athletics ODU, which took South Carolina to the brink in a 23-19 loss in front of more than 78,000 fans in Columbia in Week 1, will open its home schedule on Saturday night with East Carolina.

The game, with a 6 p.m.-ish kickoff, will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Chip Tarkenton and Andy Mashaw on the call.

Ted Alexander and James Witham have the action on ESPN Radio 94.1.

Last week’s nailbiter continued a recent trend for ODU, which played a Division I record 11 one-score games in 2023, going 6-5 in those games. Of the 11 one-score games, six came down to the final play of the game. ODU went 3-3 in those games.

The Monarchs took their first lead of the game with 9:54 left in the fourth quarter on an Ethan Sanchez field goal, but USC took the lead for good on a LaNorris Sellers TD run with 6:11 to go.

Senior wide receiver Isiah Paige caught eight passes for a career-high 115 yards and a touchdown at South Carolina. Paige’s 72-yard touchdown grab was his longest career reception.

QB Grant Wilson completed 22-of-38 passes against South Carolina for 197 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed for a 36-yard score.
