Game Preview: #13 Virginia on the road at Florida State on Sunday

#13 Virginia is looking for its first road win in six weeks Sunday at Florida State at an odd time in the world of college basketball.

Nobody is getting wins on the road right now. Four of the AP Top 10 have lost on the road this week, two to unranked teams (#3 Maryland at Michigan, #9 Duke at Clemson).

UVA (13-3, 2-2 ACC) was a Top 10 team a week ago, before a pair of road losses at unranked Virginia Tech and unranked Georgia Tech.

The Cavs held off #8 Miami at home on Tuesday, doing their part to continue the road upset trend.

Florida State (11-5, 1-3 ACC) notched their first ACC win on Wednesday, on the road, defeating N.C. State, 85-78, shooting 50 percent from the field and going 9-of-17 from three-point range.

 

Inside FSU

Malik Beasley scores a team-best 17.1 points per game, shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range.

Dwayne Bacon, a heralded 6’7” freshman, scores 16.6 points per game, shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from three.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is struggling a bit, The explosive Rathan-Mayes is shooting just 40.7 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three in scoring 12.1 points per game.

Devon Bookert is the other perimeter guy to pay attention to. Bookert scores 9.1 points per game on 41.6 percent shooting from the field and 35.8 percent from three.

Florida State is shooting 46.0 percent from the floor and 32.7 percent from three-point range. The ‘Noles score 1.088 points per possession, ranked 63rd nationally, according to KenPom.com.

Defensively, FSU allows opponents to shoot 43.2 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from three, and give up .961 points per possession, 49th nationally.

Florida State averages 74.2 possessions per game, 22nd nationally.

 

Inside Virginia

Malcolm Brogdon averages a team-best 17.0 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting from the floor and 36.5 percent from three-point range.

Anthony Gill is shooting 60.8 percent from the field. The 6’8” senior averages 15.1 points and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game.

London Perrantes is shooting an ACC-best 56.4 percent from three-point range. The junior point guard averages 11.6 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Virginia is shooting 49.8 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from three, and scores 1.198 points per possession, fifth nationally.

Defensively, UVA opponents are shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three, and scoring .951 points per possession, 36th nationally.

Virginia averages 61.8 possessions per game, 351st, dead last, in Division I.
