FredNats righty Travis Sykora named Carolina League Pitcher of the Year

fredericksburg nationals Travis Sykora, the third-ranked prospect in the Washington Nationals farm system, has been named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Year for 2024.

Sykora, a 2023 third-round pick out of Round Rock High School (Round Rock, Texas), was 5-3 with a 2.33 ERA in 20 starts this season for the Fredericksburg Nationals, Washington’s Low-A affiliate.

The 6’6”, 232-pound right-hander struck out 129 and walked 27 in 85.0 innings, with a 0.91 WHIP and .168 batting average against.

Sykora led the Carolina League in FIP (1.87), expected FIP (2.14), strikeouts per nine (13.66), strikeout-to-walk percentage (31.0%), home runs per nine (0.21), opponent average against (.167) and WHIP (0.91).

MLB.com lists the expected MLB arrival date for Sykora as the 2027 season.
