A public forum on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Waynesboro UU Fellowship on 565 Pine Ave. at 7 p.m.
Fracking is the controversial method of extracting natural gas from shale formations that may come to this region of Virginia in the future. The forum is an effort to educate the public about the process and to present various opinionson the subject.
Kate Wofford, director of the Shenandoah Valley Network, as well as members of LAWS-AG will discuss the effect of fracking on existing leases in Rockingham County, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
LAWS-AG is a group of citizens whose property is in the area where numerous leases have been signed for fracking.
A member of Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s staff has been invited to present the Congressman’s position on the subject.
