srcd-logo.jpgMatching grants of $500 are available for urban and community forestry projects in the Shenandoah Valley through the Shenandoah Resource Conservation and Development Council.

The council will award up to five matching grants for projects that promote active management of local urban or community forest resources. Proposals may include street tree inventories; planting or maintaining trees in public spaces, such as parks, streets, or greenways; controlling invasive species; holding workshops or training sessions on tree care; demonstration projects, or similar efforts.

Proposals, no longer than two typewritten pages, are being accepted no later than May 16, 2008, by the Shenandoah RC&D Council. Project work for which funding is requested must be completed by Nov. 30, 2008. Any independent city or town government, conservation organization, university or college is eligible to submit proposals for projects located within the communities of Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah or Warren counties.

The grants require a 50-50 match from the sponsor that can be either cash or in-kind.

Grant winners will be announced by June 13.

For more information, interested parties should contact the Shenandoah RC&D Council Coordinator, Kathy Holm, by phone at 540.248.3321 or email [email protected].
