The Caissons of Fishburne under head coach Chip Hill were able to sweep the conference’s first season after defeating Hargrave 42-0 at home on Friday afternoon.
Junior Tyree Scott of Staunton helped the Caissons strike first with a touchdown pass to Junior Calen Owens of Fishersville.
Following a series of turnovers, senior running back Estaban Ruiz-Haynes of Staunton scored three rushing touchdowns on the next 4 Fishburne possessions. The Caissons went into halftime with a 28-0 halftime lead.
The second half brought more of the same. Fishburne’s defense remained stingy, forcing turnovers; and running back Kian Tate and tight end Treavor Norman, both of Waynesboro, added rushing touchdowns to the final 42-0 score.
The Caissons defeated Randolph-Macon 42-3 for their first win of the season and scored a 25-0 win against rival Massanutten earlier in the season, both on the road.
Fishburne has one game remaining, at home on Friday against Richmond Christian, as they are battling Randolph-Macon and Bishop Sullivan Catholic for the fourth and final seed in the VISAA state tournament. A win would improve the Caissons to 5-3 and help their bid toward a state playoff spot.
