Fishburne Military School cadets to help Waynesboro prepare for Hurricane Florence

AFP

fishburne military schoolThe Fishburne Military School Corps of Cadets will be mobilizing today to assist their community in preparations for severe weather stemming from Hurricane Florence.

School officials are currently discussing logistics with local officials in order to make the greatest use of the 150+ eager helping hands.

“Fishburne Military School has been a part of this community for 140 years. For generations, our young men have pitched in to serve in times of need,” FMS Superintendent, CAPTAIN Mark E. Black, US Navy (Ret.), said. “Today’s efforts will not only serve as a reminder to the Corps that they are a part of this community and not insulated atop the hill, but today’s efforts will also serve to help our young men connect even more with their school’s history of service.”

At approximately 5pm, the Cadet Corps will march from Yount Barracks, down Federal Street and then turn left onto Arch Avenue until reaching the work area near the corner of Arch and West Main. There, the cadets are expected to assist with filling and placing sandbags in order to protect areas of downtown from flooding.
