Farm to Table celebration at the AMI Farm at Augusta Health

Chris Graham

Allegheny Mountain InstituteAllegheny Mountain Institute will celebrate local agriculture and community building with a very special guest on Sunday.

Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Bettina Ring, will address diners at AMI’s inaugural Farm to Table Celebration on the campus of the Institute’s Farm-to-Hospital initiative, the AMI Farm at Augusta Health.

The Farm to Table Celebration, which benefits AMI’s mission of cultivating healthier communities through food and education, offers guests the opportunity to tour the farm that supplies Augusta Health’s patients and community with vegetables, meet the AMI Farm and Food Fellows working to better our food systems, and raise a glass to healthier communities. Also on offer is a one-of-a-kind, farm fresh and local meal prepared by Cornucopia sponsor, Chefs Mike Lund and James Harris of Staunton’s LUNdCH. All vegetables included in the meal will be grown by AMI Fellows and Staff, with meat, eggs, bread, beverages and other ingredients contributed by local farms and eateries, including Polyface Farms, Newtown Baking, and Basic City Beer Co.

The AMI Farm at Augusta Health, host to the Farm to Table Celebration, is a joint venture of AMI and Augusta Health to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and sustainable growing practices. Allegheny Mountain Institute Founder and Board President Laurie Berman says the organization feels very fortunate “to have the opportunity to work [on Augusta Health’s campus] and spread the joy and understanding of how eating healthy equals healthy bodies…and doubly fortunate to have Secretary Ring in attendance”.

A limited number of tickets remain available for the Farm to Table Celebration. Tickets may be reserved at www.alleghenymountaininstitute.org, at Newtown Baking in Staunton or at the AMI Farm at Augusta Health farm stand, located in Augusta Health’s Atrium on Tuesdays, 2:30-5:30 PM. Tickets cost $90 per guest. All proceeds raised will benefit Allegheny Mountain Institute’s Farm and Food Fellowship and community programming in Highland and Augusta counties, VA.
