East Rockingham Senior Center Member Experiences Firsts at Rockingham County Fair

Contributors

ersc-fairFor one member of the East Rockingham Senior Center, the visit to the Rockingham County Fair for Older Adults Day was a welcome experience. You see, for H.B., it was his first time at the fair…ever.

Also, it was his first time of riding the Ferris wheel, and his feelings of nervousness were expressed to the ERSC Director Lisa Gooden as they boarded the ride. Certainly, he wasn’t coerced, and his attitude quickly changed as the ride began. After a few rounds, he was eagerly waving at the people standing in line and was laughing almost uncontrollably. As our group was preparing to leave the fairgrounds, Lisa asked H.B. if he wanted to go see ‘his’ Crescent Peking duck that he had undoubtedly made friends with upon his arrival that morning. Fortunately, Lisa’s son had a camera and snapped several photos of H.B., who was so proud that the fair volunteer got the duck out of its pen (unbeknownst) to Lisa so that this Kodak moment could be captured!

Lisa’s son is a regular (volunteer) photojournalist for The Valley Banner in Elkton and has submitted several photos of the ERSC members’ visit to the fair, one being H.B. and the duck.
